Your skin barrier is the outer layer that keeps water in and irritants out. When it is damaged, even gentle products can sting.
Signs of a stressed barrier
- Stinging when you apply toner or moisturiser
- Tight, flaky or shiny-but-dry skin
- Redness and small bumps that come out of nowhere
The two-week reset
- Pause exfoliating acids, retinoids and scrubs.
- Use one mild cleanser at night only. Rinse with water in the morning.
- Apply a ceramide or panthenol cream twice a day.
- Keep sunscreen every morning.
Once skin feels comfortable for a week, bring back one active at a time.
